When to pay 2021 land and building taxes?

When to pay 2021 land and building taxes?  Local Finance Division, Department of Local Administration, Ministry of Interior announced on February 28, 2021 that the payment of 2021 land and building taxes will be extended for another 2 months from the previous collection in April 2021. That means the tax payment schedule is June 2021. We have made a summary of the timelines for 2021 land and building tax payment as follows: 

January 2021 - sending the information to the taxpayers

March 2021    - announcing the appraised value of the land and buildings

April 2021      - informing the tax assessments

June 2021      - paying the taxes by dividing into 3 installments

                   1st installment - within June 2021

                   2nd installment - within July 2021

                   3rd installment – within August 2021

July 20211     - issuing the notification letters to the delayed taxpayers

August 2021   - Local Government Administration informs the tax arrears to the Land  Department or the branches of the Land Department   What will happen if we do not pay the land and building taxes for the year 2021?

  • If the taxes are not paid in time but before the notification letters are issued, 10% interests of the tax amount will be charged.
  • If the taxes are paid according to the schedules in the notification letters, 20% interests of the tax amount will be charged.
  • If the taxes are paid later than the schedules in the notification letters, 40% interests of the tax amount will be charged.
  • If the taxes are not paid according to the schedules, additional 1% per month overdue will be charged starting from the expiration of the tax payment deadline until the day that the taxes are paid but not exceeding the amount of the tax payable.

 

  • If the taxes are not paid according to the schedules, the owners will not be able to register, transfer ownership or possess the land or buildings.
  • If the taxes are not paid more than 90 days from the date of receiving the notification letters, Local Government Administration can seize or freeze and auction the unpaid tax land and buildings.
